October Newsletter

Autumn has come upon the brewery in a flurry of falling leaves and a murmuring of excitement as both days, and beers, grow darker - more on that soon. We’ve got a lot coming up on our radar between new beers, events, opportunities and more, and a lot to look back on from September. Let’s dive in.

Mavka

We first brewed Mavka with Ukraine's Varvar Brew in 2018, and since then we've brought her back twice; once in 2020, and then again in 2022 after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, with all proceeds sent to the #DrinkersForUkraine campaign.

This time around, 50p from each can will be donated to NOXAIDUK - a charity dedicated to the people of Ukraine by helping to source vehicles & supplies, organise aid convoys, provide much needed generators, and commit to fundraising efforts. A special thanks to James at Hook Norton Brewery for bringing NOXAIDUK to our attention

Mavka is available now, shipping from stock, and can be purchased in single can, 6-pack and 12-pack form.

George & Dragon Updates

September has seen a great deal of change for our Swallowfield country pub - all very positive! For a start, we’d like to welcome on board new general manager Sophie, and head chef Miguel. Sophie comes to us with a wealth of industry experience and has already been talking with a local historian to bring more of the pub’s past into the light; more on that soon!

In the kitchen, Miguel has been helping to regenerate the menu with his own pie specials becoming an instant pub classic. We’re glad to have both Sophie and Miguel on board, and look forward to seeing how they shape The George & Dragon in the coming months.

Toward the end of September, we announced that the pub would be temporarily closed for refurbishments, and we’re pleased to now be back open as usual. Changes to the pub include refurbished toilets, upgraded lighting throughout, a fresh lick of paint, upgraded wall art, new floors in our Garden Room, an extended car park and more! These small updates mark a new era for The G&D, and we hope you’ll love the new pub as much as we do.

Oktoberfest with Siren

This year marks the 189th annual Oktoberfest celebration in Munich, Germany, and alongside other breweries up and down the country, we just had to join in the fun. Our Tap Yard Oktoberfest bash was a storming success, with Bavarian beers poured by the Stein and a traditional Oompah band raising the proverbial roof. Thank you to all who made it down.

If you missed out, fear not; we’ll be celebrating again on Saturday 19th October at our flagship bar in Reading - table booking advised! Look out for beers from Hacker Pschorr and Paulaner, alongside the Siren lagers you know and love.

Finally, we still have a handful of Oktoberfest mixed cases available online to satisfy your Germanic beer fix. Don’t miss out!
